Team WolfleyWedding: What We Wore

Something Old: great-grandmother's necklace
Something New: earrings
Something Borrowed: bracelets from mom and sister
Something Blue: ribbon on garter

Pete was lookin dashingly debonair in his suit from Men's Warehouse
(notice the cuff links, hot diggity!).

I ordered my dress online (made in a chinese sweatshop??....) but had it spruced up by one of the most wonderful people on this earth. Jenny Adair worked her magic to make the dress everything I'd hoped for. Thanks for all you did for us, Mama J! Love you!

She even tried her first french bustle (for dancing, of course). It turned out perfectly!

Mallory Miller of Natural Perfections is the creator of the beautiful floral arrangements and decorations. Not only did she do an amazing job with the flowers, but she was such an great help with the entire set up process. She kept the reception place in line and allowed things to run smoothly. Mallory knows her stuff but she is also a wonderful friend. Thank you for everything you did for us Mal!

Thank You, SFCD

"You must recognize the importance of practicing your potential.
If you don't think it's important to work to your fullest extent, you're already in trouble."

I come home tomorrow. I feel like I just tried to drink out of a fire hydrant for four weeks and now I have to go into the drought hoping my gulps of information/motivation will carry me through and keep boosting me toward my goals.

"There is no place for reservation. It's not logical. Return to the fearless child."

Like last time, I'm coming back a new dancer. I have new purpose in what I do. It's rather exciting, really.

"Your choices are: get lucky, work hard, or don't. Those are your choices."

I'm excited to start another year with Theatre Ballet in two weeks! It will be a time of much growth and hard work. I can't wait.

"Practice and Doing What's Comfortable are two separate things.
Don't let yourself get away with doing less."

(quotes from Summer Lee Rhatigan, director at San Francisco Conservatory of Dance... just a few tiny drops from the fire hydrant I drank from)

this is the ad for the show we had this weekend. it was awesome.

The Struggle for Summer

THE STRUGGLE FOR SUMMER

I refuse to give up the last few weeks of summer vacation without a fight. To paraphrase Charlton Heston at a NRA meeting, "Fall is going to have to pry summer out of my cold, dead hands." But seriously...

This could have very well been the fastest summer of my life. It may have been caused by some of the radioactive fall-out as a consequence of getting married. You always hear old married couples vaguely refer to this phenomenon. They say stuff like that, "We got married and here we are 25 years later." Where is the middle to that story? Times goes faster for married people. In some marriages that is a tender mercy. Especially for those until death do ye part types.

Summer school is torturous but it makes summer fly by. Especially when your professor talks just like Vizzini from The Princess Bride. "Plato? Aristotle? Socrates? Morons." I go to class every MWF and just wait for him to scream out "The Cliffs of Insanity" or "Inconceivable."

Another reason behind the speedy summer could be all the time I spent at work. I go in at 2:30pm and I don't come out until 10pm. By this time the sun has already said peace out. There's a reason there are so many V's in Vivint. It turns you into a Vampire. But vampires are in this year. Right?

I'm not in Sterling anymore... or am I?

Naturally there are a lot of big differences between living in Sterling, CO and living in Provo, UT. Just for starters, here in Provo I open the door to our house and my line of sight is immediately accosted by the mountains. Some days they seem so close I feel like I may have to get a restraining order against them.

A Room with a View

Sterling on the other hand is so flat that scientists and geographers passing through have to remind themselves that the world is round.

The people in the two places are very different as well but that is to be expected. They speak differently (you'll never hear fetch in Sterling) and dress differently (I have yet to see a legitimate cowboy hat in Provo) and spend their Friday nights much differently (we go to bed at about 9pm here in Provo). But even with all the differences I've come to notice two incredible similarities in what people say about both Sterling and Provo.

1. If you don't like the weather wait 5 minutes

Growing up I felt like this was a strictly Sterling and NE Colorado thing. Then I heard it in Laramie, WY. Then I heard the exact same thing in Armenia. Now I hear this almost bi-weekly in Utah. I'm starting to think that this is just what people say about the weather in their area regardless of what it's really like.

People just love making comments on the weather because it's one of the few things we all truly have in common. Or it could be like Oscar Wilde pointed out, "Whenever people talk to me about the weather I always feel quite certain that they mean something else. And that makes me so nervous."

2. It is the Meth Capital of the World

This one really blew me away. I had grown up thinking that Sterling's claim to fame resided inside these two facts:

a) It used to be the regional headquarters for the KKK
b) It was the undisputed Meth capital of the world

I could let the weather thing go but this was just too much. Not that being the meth capital of the world is anything to be proud of, but at least it's something unique. Honestly how many meth capitals of the world could there be? Is it like a roving kingdom? Did Sterling suddenly get usurped by these mountain-dwelling meth dealers?

I decided to look into it myself and analyze the government's breakdown of the meth kingdom. Turns out that per capita, Wyoming is the meth capital of the world. I guess I should have known that because I've been driving through Rock Springs and Green River my entire life.

And so the search continues to find something completely unique about Sterling, CO. Maybe the two-headed calf in the museum?
